The Violence, Injury, and Death Exposure Scale (VIDES) Individual Version is available for immediate use by any individuals interested in obtaining a quantified estimate of the magnitude of their exposure to high stress events on the job. One’s VIDES score can be useful for objectively monitoring over time one’s status in terms of how impacted one has been by recent and/or cumulative exposures to high stress events or Critical Incidents. The VIDES Pay-Per-Use version is a web-based assessment application that can be efficiently completed by individuals with internet access
immediately upon completion of payment online.
Users are asked to complete a set of 24 multiple-choice style questions that tap the variety, extent, and recency of experienced events involving violence, injury, or death aspects, including both direct and indirect forms of exposure. Immediately upon completion, users receive a downloadable and printable PDF-report of their score and its interpretation.
The VIDES is a reliable and valid assessment instrument with sound psychometric properties, developed by researchers at Desert Waters Correctional Outreach. It was designed specifically for use by public safety professionals who experience high stress experiences or incidents, often repeatedly, directly and/or indirectly, as part of their job role. Examples include law enforcement officers of various types, corrections professionals, and others performing similar job roles.
